Preparing for Roof Installation

Installing a new roof could be a bit stressful for you and your family, but it is something that needs to be done and will benefit you in the long run.

To make the roofing installation done quickly and smoothly, you have to do some legwork before the roof contractors arrive and start doing their jobs.

Installing a new roof will require hammering that could cause damage to some of the items in your home, especially the ones placed in rooms directly under the roof. Remove wall decorations, any hanging decorations or fixtures, such as lamps hanging from the ceiling, and even chandeliers. Keep any small decorations, fragile items such as china or antiques that are placed in rooms close to the roof in a safe place.

It would be better if you and your family will stay at another place during the roof installation, but if you have to stay at home, you have to make sure that your family members won’t get in the way of the actual construction. For safety purposes, keep an eye on your kids and pets at all times and don’t let them play in the lawn or backyard where workers could drop some items or tools.

Cover every furniture that you want to protect from dust. Since the roofing would be disturbed, you can expect a lot of falling dust from the ceiling area.

Reserve a parking spot for the roofing contractor’s vehicle. Workers will need quick access to their vehicle to get some equipment to make sure they can park their vehicle near your home (if not directly in front of it).

If you have a tree or trees beside your home with leaves and branches right above your roof, trim it. Make sure that your tree won’t get in the way of the workers for them to be able to work safely and quickly.
